UK casino rules in 2026: what changed and what it means for you

Slot stake limits, the 10x wagering cap, deposit limits before your first deposit, financial risk checks and the gambling levy — explained.

UK gambling rules have changed more since 2023 than in the decade before. Here is what applies today.

Online slot stake limits

Since April 2025, adults aged 25 and over can stake no more than £5 per spin on online slots; since May 2025 the limit for 18–24-year-olds is £2. The limits apply to slots only.

Bonus wagering capped at 10x

Since 19 January 2026, wagering requirements on gambling promotions cannot exceed 10 times the bonus, and promotions that require you to play different types of gambling — for example a sports bet and casino spins — are banned.

Deposit limits before your first deposit

Since 31 October 2025, operators must prompt you to set a deposit limit before you deposit for the first time.

Financial risk checks

In July 2026 the Gambling Commission decided to introduce financial risk assessments in stages, starting with the largest operators and high deposit thresholds. The start date of the first stage has not yet been set.

The statutory levy

Since April 2025, operators pay a statutory levy that funds research, prevention and treatment of gambling harm.

Higher taxes

Remote Gaming Duty rose from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026. That is paid by operators, not players, but it can affect the offers you see.
